Despite earlier hints that he might step away from the western genre, Kevin Costner is once again riding back into familiar territory. The Hollywood icon is set to executive produce a new western-era drama series titled The Grey House for Amazon Prime Video.
The move comes after the massive success of Yellowstone, a show that many believe reignited Costner’s career and introduced him to a new generation of fans — even though his character John Dutton was written out shortly before the series reached its conclusion.

A Surprising Return After Horizon’s Struggles
The announcement comes as a surprise, especially after Costner’s passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, failed to meet expectations.
Originally planned as a four-part theatrical western epic, the franchise stalled after its first installment. The film reportedly earned only $11 million in its opening weekend, far below expectations — particularly painful given that Costner personally invested $38 million of his own money into the project, with a total budget near $100 million.
As a result, Horizon: Chapter 2 was pulled from its planned August 2024 theatrical release, leaving the future of the saga uncertain.

In a September interview with Radio Times, Costner suggested he might move away from the type of projects he’s focused on over the past decade. He emphasized a desire to create new things, possibly outside the western genre.
